Dens
What types of dens are there... what're they for?
Dens serve as the primary home for you, your mate, and your pups until each pup reaches 15 lbs (7 kg). They play a crucial role in your pups’ safety and survival, so choosing the right one is important.

Types of Dens
There are three main den types in WolfQuest:
Burrow/Dirt Den
Rock/Cave Den
Tree Den
In addition to these, dens can also be categorized by location:
Open Dens
Wooded Dens

Understanding the Differences
While the structural types (burrow, rock, tree) affect the appearance and sound of the den, the environment around the den—whether it's open or wooded—affects predator behavior:
Open Dens
These are located in areas with little to no tree cover. While this increases visibility for you, it also means golden eagles have a clearer line of sight to your pups, putting them at greater risk of aerial attacks.
Wooded Dens
These are surrounded by trees, offering protection from eagles due to reduced visibility. However, this environment makes it easier for land predators like cougars, bears, coyotes, and rival wolves to approach undetected.

Which Den is Best?
The ideal den type depends on your personal playstyle and strategy. Some players prefer open dens due to the ease of spotting predators, especially since golden eagles can be fairly predictable. Others might favor wooded dens for their defense against aerial threats, accepting the trade-off of increased ground predator risks.
Choose the den that best fits how you play and what kind of danger you feel more comfortable handling.
